FidoCadJ is an easy to use graphical editor, with a library of electrical symbols and footprints (traditional and SMD). It aims to be an agile and effective small EDA tool for hobbyists.
FidoCadJ stores its drawings in a compact text format, practical for the copy and paste in newsgroups and forums: this has determined its success on the Usenet and in numerous communities.
FidoCadJ is multi-platform and runs on MacOSX, Linux and Windows. FidoCadJ is translated in English, French, Italian, German, Spanish and Czech, its manual is available in English, French and Italian.

Version for any operating system (with Java version 1.5 at least). To launch FidoCadJ, you might type the following command from a shell:
java -jar fidocadj.jar
Many systems do this work for you when you double click on this file from the GUI[*] .
|10 MiB||Download this file if you are a MacOSX user (at least MacOSX 10.4 Tiger). You can download the dmg disk image, open it and copy the FidoCadJ application into your Application directory.|

A few words about FidoCadJ...
FidoCadJ can export drawings in several graphical formats (PDF, EPS, SVG, PNG, JPG). CadSoft Eagle users will appreciate the FidoCadJLIB.lbr library, for importing schematics containing the most common symbols via a script created by FidoCadJ. LaTeX users will be happy about the possibility of including circuits in documents via the PGF/TikZ export.
A small FidoCadJ reader can be run as an applet in a browser window: FidoReadJ.

|Export in Gerber format||Java programming||Exporting in graphical vector formats is easy with FidoCadJ. If you want to add a file format you just need to know it and implement a Java interface. Gerber is highly requested by those working on PCBs.|
|Export in WMF/EMF formats||Java programming||Same as above. WMF/EMF are widely used in Windows and they may be useful for including drawings in vector format in Microsoft Word or Power Point.|
|Linux packaging||Linux tools||FidoCadJ could be distribute as a deb or a RPM package. Can you prepare one?|
